New Moon in Scorpio: Diving into the Shadows
This is the deep time of the year. We are called to listen within. Scorpio’s deep emotional waters plunge us into our Shadow Work to look at what’s beneath the surface.
The new moon aspect means that even the moon is in her darkness right now.
It’s intense, emotional.
Are you living your truth deep down? What patterns of old emotional resentments are surfacing into your present reality?
It’s time to dive into your vulnerability – it takes vulnerability to go into that deep, dark place within. And that kind of vulnerability is also an expression of your courage.
We can call upon the energies of both Durga and Kali to help us navigate these times.
Kali is the power of creative destruction: revolution and dissolution. She tears down old forms, structures and patterns of behaviour that no longer serve us – both personally and collectively. She is the fierce goddess with the power to transform. To release old, deep and painful wounds and let go of outworn ancestral patterning.
Kali’s mantra, Om Namo Kali Kali Om Namo, can be repeated 108 times to help you to release and let go of all that no longer serves you and you no longer wish to carry forward. It is a powerful practice!
Durga gives us courage to seek a deeper truth. To face our fears and be vulnerable to transformation. As she guides us to look within, Durga can help us find the confidence to celebrate our achievements and stop playing small. She can also help us to see where we are putting up avoidance tactics, barriers and self-protection, so that we can recognise our potential for greater growth.
Durga’s mantra, Om Dum Durgayai Namaha, bestows strength and courage to support you in this transformational process.
How Luna Rhythms Yoga can support you during this Scorpio New Moon:
At Luna Rhythms, our unique system of yoga integrated with the lunar cycles and solar seasons teaches techniques from the ancient yogic practices of asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha and mantra in alignment with the energies of the day, season and cycle. This New Moon in Scorpio invites you to face your fears and heal deep wounds.
Scorpio’s energy works with the second chakra, Swadhisthana or Sacral Chakra, illuminating your sexual energy and any emotional imbalances here. Asanas that open your pelvis and hips can be particularly supportive at this time. Dwi Pada Pitham, the Two-Foot Support, Baddha Konasana, the Bound Angle Pose or Cobbler’s Pose, Pigeon Pose and Wheel Pose may be appropriate for you depending on your yoga experience.
At this dark time of the year, it’s also really important to call in our inner light. We call forth the light from the opposite side of the Wheel of the Year – the waxing sun of Beltaine when we were moving towards the Summer Solstice. All the sunlight that we absorbed and stored within our being then is being called to the surface now to serve and support us as we navigate through the dark times ahead.
Breath of Fire, or Bhastrika the Bellows Breath, can be a powerful practice for reconnecting with your inner fire. This is not a practice for beginners, but if you already have a regular established yoga practice, and you have been taught Bhastrika by a competent teacher, use this fire breath to generate heat, power and light at this time. Pumping your abdomen with equal inhale and exhale, feel the fire rising within you.
Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation is a strong and energetic vinyasa, or flow sequence, that is also great for generating heat in your body and reigniting your inner fire. As you move through this sequence, breathe deeply with awareness and gratitude for your inner sun.
I will be leading a practice of 108 Sun Salutations for the Full Moon on 30 November to get you deeply in touch with the heat and light of your inner fire at this time. This is an energising and celebratory practice that I am really excited to share with you! Click here to find out more.
Take care of yourself as we navigate these powerful times ahead.
Love,
Diana x
