Sensual Saucy Sassy Beltane & Full Moon In Scorpio

Scorpio’s moon takes us into the second chakra, the centre of sensuality and sexuality. It’s no coincidence that this moon occurs at Beltane. This is time to get out in the fields, get wild, and merge with the explosion of the life-force that is emerging!

Indeed Beltane, or May day, is a time for exuberant celebration as the long warm days, and the lush abundance of the growing season are ramping up... It is a time to celebrate, this full moon, the return of passion, sensuality, vitality, fun and frivolity, and the co-creative energies that are so evident at this time of year. And boy do we need this after the challenges we have all faced with lockdowns and the ongoing battle against the virus, and all that entails!!

Spring fever is at its peak. Nature is calling to us to get down and dirty with her!!!! Primal urges toward lust and wildness becomes stronger, and we see both animals and humans pairing off, sparked by that most basic of instincts to reproduce. This life giving relationship between masculine and feminine energies is honored now, perhaps more directly at this Sabbath, than at any other point of the year. In the cyclical story of the Goddess and the God, this is the shift between their mother child relationship, to that of partners in co-creation. Over the spring months, the God has matured into his young manhood, and the Goddess is again ready to step from her maiden aspect, into the life giving force of the Mother. In their prime of life they fall in love and unite, and the Goddess once again becomes pregnant, insuring the rebirth of the God. This is the act that brings about new life in the form of abundant crops, healthy livestock and forests full of wild game and healing herbs. It is the fundamental building blocks of the continuation of life and so is celebrated joyously at this time.

Soon the summer foliage will hide all that was visible during the bare months of winter, and we are reminded of the divinity hidden within plain sight that this greenery so often evokes. Perhaps for this reason Beltane is also a time of the fairies, who are considered to be more active on this day than on any other, except for Samhain which sits directly opposite Beltane. Fairies are said to inhabit various places in nature, from hills and forests, to small plants and flowers. Some leave offerings for them on Beltane eve.

The word Beltane has been traced back to an old word meaning bright fire. The ritual importance of fire is a central focus of this celebration. Fires and bonfires were lit to celebrate the first fire of the light half of the year. This act marked the beginning of summer and hopes for plentiful sunshine throughout the season.

As a living embodiment of the sun, ritual fire was seen as having magical powers, and in many areas the beltane fires where seen as ritual purification for cattle before they were turned out into the summer pastures. The cattle were driven between two large fires, and they were blessed by druids with sacred energy. This would clear the animals of any lingering winter disease, and protect them from illness and accidents throughout the summer. People would also walk through the fires for luck and fertility for the coming year. In some areas the ashes from the dwindling fires would be sprinkled over crops, livestock and the people themselves. Over time the annual Beltane fires grew into large festivals, where people came to greet each other after the long winter. Dancing, music, games and great feasts became tradition, along with free license for sexual promiscuity on this special occasion. The earth is celebrating her vibrant, fertile creativity, and we are invited to celebrate that too.

As the earth brings forth her abundance of flowers – elderflower and hawthorn are coming into blossom now – what have you manifested in abundance this month?

What have you created that’s a cause for celebration?

The full moon is a time for celebrating the blossoming of the seeds you planted at the last new moon. The Aries new moon sowed the seeds of passion, and reigniting what made us feel alive, which were then energised by the Sun’s movement into the season of Beltane.

How have you manifested that potential up to now?

Full Moon in Scorpio is an invitation to dance, move your body, get out on the wild land and reignite your love, joy and frivolity!!! Its time for some fun!

I invite you to celebrate with a fire outside, bring your friends, share some food, drink mead, dance under the stars and celebrate in wild, unbounded, jubilance, for time is short my friends and the longest day will soon be upon us!
