New Moon in Sagittarius
The new moon in Sagittarius focuses the energies around your thighs and legs. This is the area of the root chakra, or muladhara. Sagittarius invites you to strengthen your connection to your roots, grounding firm like the archer or centaur that represents this astrological sign.
Connection with the earth, through your root chakra, is key at this time. Grounding into the earth at this time of year, deep within Samhain with the light visibly receding, there’s an invitation to set new intentions for rebirth when the light returns. Samhain was considered the Celtic New Year in the ancient calendar, and the new moon itself reminds us that the cycles continue. With the waxing moon cycle beginning again, it’s a good time to set clear intentions for what you want to bring into your life during this next lunar cycle. Grounding your intentions into the earth helps create stability, rooting those intentions into the material world.
During this next waxing phase of the luna rhythm, what practical steps can you take towards your visions?
Root chakra imbalances can manifest as fear and uncertainty. Not knowing which steps to take to move your life forward, or knowing what you need to do but feeling unable to do it. Yoga asanas for strengthening muladhara include many standing poses. Virabhadrasana I, II and III, the Warrior poses, strengthen your thighs and bring you into deeper connection with the earth. The Warrior poses can look and feel like the Sagittarius archer or centaur as you practice them, so you can imagine yourself standing firm and taking aim. Grounding down into the earth with a clear vision for where you are going, releasing the arrows of your intentions.
How Luna Rhythms Yoga can support you during this Sagittarius New Moon:
At Luna Rhythms, our unique system of yoga integrated with the lunar cycles and solar seasons teaches techniques from the ancient yogic practices of asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha and mantra in alignment with the energies of the day, season and cycle. This New Moon in Sagittarius is the perfect time to give your thighs some loving attention and help to rebalance your root chakra.
One of our core practices at Luna Rhythms is the Grounding Cord. From a comfortable sitting or standing position, eyes closed and with a firm connection to the floor beneath you, imagine a ruby red cord that is attached just below your navel and grows deep down into the earth. You can imagine your grounding cord as a root, or as a ruby red cord connecting you to the earth. With your grounding cord in place, feel the support that the earth gives to your body. Breathe deep into your belly and feel the sense of stability your grounding cord gives you. Drawing energy up from the earth into your belly as you inhale, and releasing anything that no longer serves you as you exhale. Stay with this practice for as long as you feel comfortable. When you feel ready to open your eyes, connect in to your firm intentions for this waxing cycle and put practical steps in place to achieve them.
Luna Rhythms Yoga is based on a range of different techniques from the yogic tradition that enable us to embody and integrate the monthly and daily rhythms of the lunar cycle, ensuring that our practice is always in alignment with exactly what we need when we need it.
