Full Moon in Leo
Leo’s full moon gifts you an opportunity to celebrate yourself and your achievements. Pride can often be seen as a negative trait, but Leo’s lion energy – coupled with the celebratory influence of the full moon – invites you to take stock and be proud of all that you are and all that you’ve achieved. Look back at your life path that’s brought you to this moment. How did you get here? What challenges did you have to face, what sacrifices did you have to make, what are the small victories you have completed against all odds?
Make a list of your achievements and find a way to honour each one, giving gratitude for the opportunities and for yourself. Creating a conscious attitude of gratitude can help to bring more of what you appreciate into your life. With the waxing seasonal energies of Imbolc behind this full moon, now is the time to ground your intentions for the way ahead.
How Luna Rhythms Yoga can support you during this Leo Full Moon:
At Luna Rhythms, our unique system of yoga integrated with the lunar cycles and solar seasons teaches techniques from the ancient yogic practices of asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha and mantra in alignment with the energies of the day, season and cycle.
The moon in Leo brings a focus to your circulatory system, so this is a perfect time to get the energy moving around your body with a dynamic asana sequence. The Salute to the Moon, or Chandra Namaskara, will get you moving and get your blood pumping. Allow yourself to wake up from the winter’s depths and feel yourself reborn as you re-energise your system. Six rounds of Salute to the Moon will help to reinvigorate your body, mind and soul by creating length, flexibility and movement in your spine, strength and grounding in your legs and feet, lightness and lift in your arms and upper body. Celebrating the moon and her cycles as you celebrate yourself.
To deepen into this practice, and energise your circulatory system more fully, establish a really focused Ujjayibreath by breathing through your nose into the back of your throat making the sound of the ocean. This is a warming breath that will energise your circulation as you move through the sequence. Ujjayi is a Sanskrit word that means ‘victory’, bringing a sense of celebration to what you have accomplished and a sense of direction towards your new intentions.
The Gatekeeper: A Simple Breathing Meditation
This meditation is a simple way to practice observing your breath as a sacred dance of life. It may enable you to experience a sense of calm and inner spaciousness while resting your mind in the pulsation of your breath.
Sit in a comfortable, relaxed meditation position. Close your eyes and allow your legs and pelvis to relax down towards the earth. Visualize a deep red grounding cord connecting you from your pelvis into the ground, enhancing your sensation of rootedness. Then feel the lift of your spine rising upwards from your root.
Breathe normally.
Close your eyes and notice your breath moving in and out through your nostrils. Allow your breath to flow in and out easily and effortlessly.
Imagine you are the gatekeeper of a holy temple. Your body is the temple. Your breath is the guest at the temple. Witness your sacred guest moving in and out through the temple gate (your nose). Observe with honour, respect, and love, allowing your mind to become completely absorbed in the flow of your breath entering and exiting the temple that you are.
May you find your true nature in the reservoir of peace underneath the surface of life.
Continue your practice of joy and expansion as you go out into nature, celebrating the early spring flowers and feeling gratitude for the rising energies of the new seasonal cycle. Open the windows in your home to purify and aerate your living space to create a fertile environment for the seeds of your life to be planted and grow.
